CALS/EC, promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, entered into the implementation phase in FY 2001. Provision of the Public works Procurement Information service (PPI) has already begun as well as electronic bidding and electronic delivery. Efforts to improve the public work process have also moved into full-scale operation. In such an environment, we planned a symposium inviting government officials from 4 countries (Japan, U.S., Korea and Vietnam) who are actively working on IT implementation and CALS in public works, to speak on and discuss the possibilities for result sharing and future direction. We hope people who are interested in CALS/EC in public works can join us.
